Crosby, Mississippi
Kate was born in England and raised for much of her childhood in London. She moved to Los Angeles in her teenage years, her family following her film editor father’s work to Hollywood. As a young adult, she moved to San Francisco where she ran a Montessori preschool.
Kate moved with her husband and daughter to New Orleans in 1990.
Kate works in a variety of art forms. She creates costume pieces in the New Orleans Mardi Gras and other traditions, and locally is known for her elaborate headpieces from the runway to local shops and art markets. She has worked with nutria pelts (an invasive and wetland destroying animal with beautiful fur) to create practical and adorning pieces. Currently she is focusing on her clothing designs, from hand knit sweaters to sewn dresses.
Kate covers the extremes in fashion. From fanciful costumes and headdresses for Carnival and Halloween to comfortable, easy to wear everyday clothing.
Kate lives in New Orleans (when she is not in Crosby, MS), where costumes play an important part in our lives, especially during the Mardi Gras season.
Then comes summer and the brutal heat. Linen is the best fabric to wear during our long summer months. Hence the chemise dresses available in the store- Kate lives in them.
In autumn and winter, Kate's light mohair/silk sweaters are perfect for cool evenings.
